Artist Statement:
My work delves into the significance of food in connecting us and exploring human identity, desire, experience, and the complexity of life.
Inspired by birthday/wedding cakes and the joy of celebrating with food, I create realistic and abstract ceramic works and lamps resembling cakes, cupcakes, and other treats. The realistic appearance of the icing explores the concept of desire, while the light from the lamps draws people in for more.
My use of clay evokes a sense of connection and personal experience through the tactile experience of working with clay. The process is just as important to me as the end result; I enjoy being able to feel and experience what Iām creating.
Working in a bakery for six years has also inspired me tremendously. Decorating cakes is rewarding because I get to be a part of other people's special days, and I wanted to translate that joy into clay. This also means that, unlike real cakes, my cakes will last forever and keep those special memories alive.
There's more to food than just flavors. It's about connection, sharing, and better understanding each other.
