BFA: Art with Studio Emphasis in Drawing - Animation Minor

Artist Name:

Kaitlin Gleiforst

Work Title:

The Phosphenes Project

Medium:

Digital Illustration and Animation

Artist Statement:

I am an artist who merges a foundation in visual fine arts with experimental animation. I am fascinated by experiences and sensations that are uniquely human yet often underrepresented or overlooked. The Phosphenes Project was inspired by a simple moment: closing my eyes. Everyone closes their eyes and experiences a unique phenomenon of lights and shapes. Universally experienced but rarely represented, this project has explored just how diverse these visions can be. The Phosphenes Project has involved countless participants including friends, family, peers, and strangers to gather the widest range of data as possible. This ongoing exploration reflects my focus on human experience and connection. It is a project that everyone can relate to and not only inspires greater mindfulness and introspection about something many tend to overlook, but also encourages viewers to share and explore each other’s visions, creating opportunities to learn more about both themselves and those around them, and to discover connections they might not have otherwise noticed.
